Elements and Performance Criteria
- Establish agreed communications system
- Forms of signals/communication conforming to Australian Standards and codes of practice are identified
- Hazards are identified, risks are assessed and control measures are implemented
- Communication methods to be used in crane operations are agreed with relevant personnel
- Trial and configure communications
- Communication is trialled, adjusted and/or confirmed as required to ensure a safe and effective lift
- Communications equipment is checked for correct operation and configured in line with legislative and workplace requirements
- Defective equipment is tagged, rejected and reported to authorised personnel for corrective action
- Signals/communications are given both within sight and out of sight of crane operator
- Communicate effectively during a lift
- Communication methods and communications systems are used during a lift in accordance with regulatory requirements, manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures
- Problems identified during communication are reported and immediate action is initiated in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
